Upon arrival to the Riu Playacar (around 2:00pm on Christmas day) we checked in, had lunch, and immediately headed to the beach to look around. We had heard that the last hurricane had devastated the beaches in the Riviera Maya, but luckily our beach was one of the few that still existed. Many of the neighboring resorts had little or no beach left.
