I've been bad...terrible about updating! So much has been going on in my life, you have NO idea! So I will do a recap of the last month...reader's digest style (OMG does anyone even know what Reader's Digest is nowadays? or am I THAT old????)

HORSE recap: I have been riding Tango sporadically. I am hesitant to push him, yet I know I need to get him back into shape and back re-training for HUS. He has fluctuated between wild (as in bucking-bronco when i make him frame up and WORK at the canter) and phenomenal (moments where it all clicks and he goes back into Cadillac-Cruise for a few strides). The biggest news is that I am moving my horses next month. I am moving them to a really nice show barn outside of Columbus (Lithopolis) that has the facility and knowledge to not only take care of my show horse, but also my mare and foal. I am excited to ride in their indoor, it's about double the size of what I am used to. It's a HUGE decision to move them...I agonized over it for a while, but then this opportunity opened up and I decided it was time to grab on to it. Now, This place is over 2 hours from my house. Sounds a little bit ridiculous, but my master plan is to sell the ghetto house this winter/spring and move to that area. it is time to start fresh. My life has turned upside down (in many more ways than I ever described in this training diary!) and I think it is time to purge and renew my life. I am excited...scared...terrified...and excited. yes, all rolled up into one big ball of emotion.

DOG recap: I am pounding away at the conformation shows, getting some success here and there. My biggest success this month to date was winning owner/Handler Best of Breed, then a Group 1 on Owner handler at the Madison, Ohio show on July 10th. Those points haven't been updated on AKC yet, so I am still hovering on the top 10 bubble, tied for 9th place. Top 10 get to go to the Eukanuba championships in Florida in December...my ultimate goal.

we are still plugging away at agility, though we are taking time off from trials until probably November. I am taking the summer and fall to re-train all the mistakes I inadvertently trained in to Pretzel. Since I am working part time in Columbus, I am taking a Distance and Handling class in the city and WOW is it challenging! I love it, and Pretzel has been improving a LOT. So, there is hope...I think?

PERSONAL LIFE recap: Well, I am doing great at my new job (so they all say), I am loving the freedom and the ability to visit my parents as often as I like (which is a HUGE benefit). It's weird to not go to band camp this year, and I spent that week really thinking a lot about my former job and missing the relationships I had with the students. I should be proud that the program is still going on and thriving without me - proof that I built a good one...but it's hard to be replaced and be somewhat forgotten. Time to grow up and move on, I guess. So many changes in my personal life have happened this year, moving away and starting new will be a good thing for me.

So, I will try to be better in my updates. I promise!

Marion, Ohio AKC Conformation show

This weekend we did a 4-day show in Marion. 3 of the 4 days had Owner-Handler, so I was gunning for some points. Pretzel did not disappoint! We won Owner-Handler best of breed (that was the easy part) all 3 days (and also got Best Opposite for some more points towards our grand championship). The best part was that on Friday and Saturday, we got a Group 2 BOTH days in the OH Sporting Group, and on Sunday we got a Group 4. I was thrilled thrilled thrilled! Pretzel showed really well.

I got some great help from a professional handler that was there. She worked with Pretzel and I on two of the evenings, getting us to stack quicker and do our down and back straighter. It definitely helped us improve. On Monday I got to show a couple Portuguese Water Dogs for her, and that was a blast!!!

Well time off does NOT agree with Tango, I think! Getting him back into work mode has been a challenge. He rode great when I was just doing the basic legging up - lots of easy long-trotting and a little canter work. Now I am asking for more, asking him to frame up at the canter, lift those shoulders, and it is work!. He responded with a bit of attitude and a little bucking. Once I made him get down to business, he was much better, but we seem to have a small battle every ride for a little bit before he settles in to his job. It looks like we are moving next Tuesday (August 4th). I am nervous....but looking forward to the change.
